Citations vs mentions
Definitions for citation, mention, recommendation, competitor citation, missed opportunity, and related evidence terms.
Cited classifies monitored results into a small set of evidence types. Use these definitions consistently in the Inbox and Notebook.
- Citation
- A monitored response includes your verified domain as a source or linked reference.
- Mention
- A monitored response names your brand or product without an attributable source link to your verified domain.
- Recommendation
- A monitored response explicitly recommends your product, brand, or domain.
- Competitor citation
- A monitored response cites or recommends a competitor domain you configured.
- Missed opportunity
- A relevant monitored answer cites a configured competitor while your verified domain is absent.
- Occurrence
- A single observation of the same citation event during a later monitoring run.
- Citation event
- A durable Inbox note for a classified citation, mention, recommendation, competitor citation, or missed opportunity.
- Citation evidence
- The stored snapshot of prompt, response context, and sources from a monitored result.
Examples

Citation: The monitored response includes example.com as a source.
Mention: The monitored response says “Example is a tool for…” but does not provide example.com as a source.
